'No one approached me about Gupta Waterkloof landing,' Martins tells commission

The Gupta family's controversial landing at the Waterkloof Air Force Base in 2013 is the focus at the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture on Tuesday when former transport minister Ben Martins takes the stand.

Martins told the commission that no one approached him about the Gupta Waterkloof landing.

To weigh in on Martins's testimony, Clement Manyathela on the Xolani Gwala Show chats to Eyewitness News reporter Bonga Dlulane.

He told the commission that there was no authority from his side, he just saw things happening from the newspapers. No one approached him about landing in Waterkloof Air Base. The authority rests solely with home affairs and air traffic services.

Dlulane says another interesting thing that Martins said at the commission was that Tony Gupta had earlier told him that the Guptas wanted a celebration on arrival.

When the plane lands, they wanted to have a celebration there. And when Martins resisted, Tony asked: 'But how can you resist? We are friends with the president. I don't understand this resistance as we are important friends of the president.'
