'Gupta Waterkloof landing embarrassing, shouldn't have happened,' inquiry told

Former Department of Justice and Constitutional Development director-general Nonkululeko Sindane is testifying at the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture on Wednesday.

EWN reporter Bonga Dlulane is tracking the commission and Sindane's testimony.

She told the commission that what happened at the Gupta Waterkloof landing was embarrassing and should not have happened.

Dlulane says Sindane told the commission that what her investigation found was that a lot of name-dropping was used by Bruce Koloane, who made it sound like he was in communication with former president Jacob Zuma in making sure that Gupta guests received diplomatic perks when they landed.

What they found was that Bruce Koloane used all these illusions that he was in connection with different ministers to try and make sure that the Guptas received a lot of perks when landing. Her investigation found that innocent civil servants were used to follow through with the landing. She says her recommendations was that this matter must be taken seriously because if the media had not picked it up, it would have gone under the carpet.
