Justice and Correctional Services Minister Ronald Lamola says there will be immediate interventions following the suspension of a senior manager for corporate affairs in the Durban management area.
The suspension comes after two separate incidents were recorded at Westville prison.
A video has captured wardens encouraging inmates to fight. In another video, inmates could be seen sniffing a white substance.
Lamola held a briefing on Wednesday.

Ndenze says some of the interventions include the introduction of body scanners.
The director general Arthur Fraser says they have had the body scanners for quite sometime but they are sitting there doing nothing now they are going to make them functional.— Babalo Ndenze, Reporter - EWN
