[LISTEN] SA tennis star Lloyd Harris on playing hero Federer at Wimbledon

It was the stuff of his childhood fantasy and on Tuesday South African tennis player Lloyd Harris' boyhood dreams came true.

The 22-year-old Capetonian took on his idol, world Number 3 Roger Federer on centre court at Wimbledon.

He spoke to CapeTalk's John Maytham about the experience.

At 10 years old watching these guys... I thought one day that's what I want to do and there I was yesterday 12 years later playing against the greats on the centre stage.

I realised damn, this is my opportunity, all I need to do is hold serve twice.

I felt pumped and excited and felt like I really had a good chance out there.

Despite eventually losing 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 to the eight-time Wimbledon champion, Harris says there's certainly no animosity between the pair and that Federer proved his sportsmanship after the game.

He congratulated me on a fantastic match and was asking if I'm OK and wishing me luck for the rest of the season.
