[VIDEO] Texas cops identify viral ice cream licker

A US girl has gained instant notoriety after a video posted on Twitter showed her opening a tub of Blue Bell ice cream, licking it, replacing the lid and then returning the product to the supermarket freezer in Lufkin, Texas.

The post has been viewed more than 12 million times and a 'catfish' with a similar name misled local police by claiming credit.

They say they've now identified the true culprit and the case will be dealt with by the juvenile justice system as the 'Blue Bell licker' is under the age of 17.

Blue Bell Creameries said in a statement that the 'compromised' container had been found and removed, along with others of the same size.
