In his latest column, News24 Editor Adriaan Basson suggests that following its poor performance in the general elections, the Democratic Alliance (DA) could be well placed to begin co-operation talks with the ANC.
I think the EFF may have just handed the DA a perfect opportunity if they wanted to start the long-awaited realignment of our politics more along ideological and constitutional grounds, in anticipation of the 2021 local elections and the 2023 national government elections.— Adriaan Basson, Editor - News24
Last week the informal coalition between the DA and the EFF collapsed after the DA rejected Julius Malema's proposal that the party wanted an EFF mayor in Tshwane.
I do believe that this has opened the door for the DA to enter those kinds of talks with the Cyril Ramaphosa side of the ANC.— Adriaan Basson, Editor - News24
Basson says the absolution of the marriage of convenience between the DA and the EFF could be the springboard to open co-operation talks with the ANC in "at least Tshwane, Johannesburg and Nelson Mandela Bay".
