Is a DA-ANC marriage on the cards following the acrimonious split from the EFF?

In his latest column, News24 Editor Adriaan Basson suggests that following its poor performance in the general elections, the Democratic Alliance (DA) could be well placed to begin co-operation talks with the ANC.

I think the EFF may have just handed the DA a perfect opportunity if they wanted to start the long-awaited realignment of our politics more along ideological and constitutional grounds, in anticipation of the 2021 local elections and the 2023 national government elections.

Adriaan Basson, Editor - News24

Last week the informal coalition between the DA and the EFF collapsed after the DA rejected Julius Malema's proposal that the party wanted an EFF mayor in Tshwane.

I do believe that this has opened the door for the DA to enter those kinds of talks with the Cyril Ramaphosa side of the ANC.

Adriaan Basson, Editor - News24

Basson says the absolution of the marriage of convenience between the DA and the EFF could be the springboard to open co-operation talks with the ANC in "at least Tshwane, Johannesburg and Nelson Mandela Bay".
