'The last body was retrieved at about 2 o'clock this morning'

On Monday evening just after 5pm, a trench on a construction project collapsed in Sandown Road, in Sunningdale, Table View, trapping a number of workers.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, three of the men's bodies that had been covered in sand were recovered.

Jermaine Carelse of the City of Cape Town's Fire and Rescue Service provides Kieno Kammies and listeners with an update of the men trapped under muddied sand in a trench they were digging in Sandown Road.

When the officers arrived on the scene the bodies had already been covered in sand for approximately 30 minutes.
