He wants SA in the top-50 economies (out of 190) in terms of “ease of doing business”, says Gasant Orrie (Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr).

President Cyril Ramaphosa has set his sights on South Africa being in the top-50 countries in terms of “ease of doing business”.

It’s an achievable goal if the country can reduce red tape.

South Africa is ranked 82nd out of 190 economies in the 2018 World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Index (EDB).

Arabile Gumede (in for The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield) interviewed Gasant Orrie (Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr).

Listen to the interview in the audio below (and scroll down for quotes from it).

Yes, I think there’s a chance of us getting there. But it’s going to take a lot on the part of Government…

Gasant Orrie, Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr

South Africa does poorly in terms of the ease of starting a business…

Gasant Orrie, Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr

These targets should be achievable… The time has come to stop talking about talking…

Gasant Orrie, Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr

Fortunately for us, we have a fairly robust infrastructure network, apart from electricity and water supply…

Gasant Orrie, Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr

If one focusses on the negatives without looking at the positives, you may as well give up now… We can’t give up hope!
