Faster affordable data network on the way

Former FNB CEO Michael Jordaan and other prominent South African business people such as Design Indaba CEO Ravi Naidoo are working on developing a 5th generation mobile network (5G).

Jodaarn says 5G data will be much faster and affordable.

One of the wonderful things about the new technology is that is a lot less expensive than the old technology.

We are really trying to invest in the future here and harvest the benefits that the new technology will give us.

He says the whole world will be moving to 5G in five years.

TechCentral editor, Duncan McLeod, says internet connection in South Africa is not too expensive compared to other countries, but insists that there areas that need to be investigated.

I think our mobile prices are pretty much in line with international costs, but the problem here is that people rely mostly on mobile connection.

McLeod says the expiry date or limited time for data usage is also something that needs to be interrogated.
