The office of eThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede remained empty on Wednesday despite her official forced leave having lapsed on Tuesday.
Gumede was forced by the African National Congress (ANC) to take 30 days after she was charged with fraud and corruption related to the awarding of a tender worth over R200-million.
The provincial secretary of the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal Mdumiseni Ntuli says her return to work is pursuant to the outcome of an ongoing investigation.
The investigation is almost done, it should be done by the end of this week or early next week.— Mdumiseni Ntuli, Provincial secretary - ANC KZN
Once that is done the PWC must report, discuss it make recommendations to the provincial executive committee which is meeting at the end of the month.— Mdumiseni Ntuli, Provincial secretary - ANC KZN
The Democratic Alliance had threatened legal action if Gumede returned to work.
