[VIDEO] Sanral cameras help nab armed hijackers on Joburg highway

Police statistics show South Africa has an extremely high hijacking rate according.

Watch how technology working together with law enforcement was able to bring these armed hijackers to book.

The cameras form part of the Intelligent Transport Systems Project and have begun to play a significant role in helping curb the high levels of hijacking, especially in Johannesburg

In this case, Sanral alerted the Johannesburg Metro Police (JMPD) about the hijacking.

Sanral tweeted the video on Tuesday saying "Two armed hijackers caught by Sanral cameras. They were watched like hawks until the Johannesburg Metro Police could find them."

Watch below as the JMPD follow the hijacked 'Royal Schools' branded mini-bus and manage to apprehend the suspects:
