Sexual and emotional abuse: Does forgiving your perpetrator help with healing?

When you have been a victim of emotional or sexual abuse should you forgive your perpetrator or not?

Does forgiveness help with the process of healing?

Eusebius McKaiser discussed this issue with clinical sexologist Dr Eve on whether to forgive or not.

Research has shown that when one does offer forgiveness, it gives you more positive mental health and a feeling of empowerment.

The purpose of going into the feeling of forgiveness is to end up with what we call trauma growth. Trauma growth is what we all aspire to is to be able to have positive changes that comes when we overcome some kind of traumatic experience.
