The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in KwaZulu-Natal has officially withdrawn Bongekile 'Babes Wodumo' Simelane's assault charge against Mandla 'Mampintsha' Maphumulo, after the two chose to undertake an alternative dispute resolution process.
The charges relate to an assault case Simelane brought against boyfriend Maphumulo.
The two appeared at the Pinetown Magistrate's Court on Friday where the matter was finalised.
Simelane opened an assault case after a video was shared widely on social media showing Maphumulo assaulting her.
Clement Manyathela on the Xolani Gwala Show talks to NPA KwaZulu-Natal spokesperson Natasha Cara.
The charges were not dropped by Simelane against Maphumulo. Let me explain why, both the accused and the complainant had agreed to undergo a process called alternative dispute resolution. This is an amicable way where the complainant and the accused get to sort the matter out.— Natasha Cara, Spokesperson - NPA KZN
She says both Simelane and Maphumulo have completed the alternative dispute resolution process.
On finalisation of that process, we then said ok, you guys have gone through the process, then we withdrew the charges.— Natasha Cara, Spokesperson - NPA KZN
