Magistrate gave a well-reasoned judgment in Duduzane Zuma case, says expert

T Maseko Attorney's Tyrone Maseko says that the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has covered its basis by making sure the culpable homicide case against Duduzane Zuma was ventilated in court.

On Friday, Zuma was acquitted of culpable homicide and reckless driving charges on a ruling that the state failed to prove he caused Phumzile Dube's death in February 2014.

Maseko says if the NPA hadn't made the decision to prosecute, there would have been a cloud hanging over the institution and Zuma.

The question has always been whether he got away with murder, as it were, and the problem is when you leave these things to the realm of speculation and trial by the media or public, it is unfair on one because you carry that stigma.

On the part of the NPA, they could have been blamed or accused of being biased or impartial.

I thought the magistrate did a good job in reasoning the judgment, it was a very well-reasoned judgment.
