Diepsloot shutdown called off

A planned shutdown in Diepsloot that was meant to begin on Monday has been called off following a meeting between the local government and leaders in the area.

Residents have complained about service delivery issues, demanding that Eskom repair transformers.

The power utility is believed to have refused to enter the area because of safety issues.

Gauteng Premier David Makhura’s special advisor, Eric Xayiya, says a general consensus has been reached between the leaders and Eskom.

There is general acceptance between the leadership and Eksom that Eskom will actually go in and deal with the repairs themselves because Eskom is saying that their people are being attacked when they actually go and renovate or remove those who are illegally connected.

Eric Xayiya, Gauteng premier’s special advisor

We are meeting Eskom tomorrow. We will work with them to resolve some of these problems.
