Update: M2 bridge repairs 'on track', will be completed by end October - JRA

The Johannesburg Roads Agency announced the closure of the M2 highway between the Crown Interchange and Maritzburg Street, for rehabilitation due to structural failures in February this year.

Siyabonga Genu, Head of Infrastructure at Johannesburg Road Agency, provides the latest update.

We had four columns at Selby that had failed structurally, so we have demolished all four columns and are in the process of rebuilding them.

He explains that joints had also collapsed at the Kaserne Bridge and the demolition has been completed.

This will all be completed by the end of October, he adds.

JRA plans to assess all 8 bridge structures on the M2 to identify any structural problems.

It is mainly water getting into the concrete structures that cause damage.
