FF Plus: BLF deregistration a 'sober decision'

The Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) has welcomed the de-registration of the Black First Land First Movement (BLF) as a political party.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) announced in a statement on Monday it was de-registering BLF as a political party after the FF Plus appealed a decision to have the organisation registered because it excluded membership based on race.

FF Plus MP Wouter Wessels says it is a 'sober' decision.

We welcome the ruling. It is unfortunate the commission only came to this decision now. We had already brought to their attention that the constitution of the BLF is in contravention with the Electoral Commission Act already in January of this year.

Wouter Wessels, MP - FF Plus

It means they cannot contest any election and they won't be able to contest the upcoming municipal elections.
