Manenberg residents vow to 'take back the streets'

They live in one of the most dangerous areas of the Western Cape.

A place where murders are commonplace, shootings are a daily occurrence and gangsters have taken over.

But now residents in Manenberg are saying enough is enough. They're pledging to take back the streets.

A group, calling itself Concerned Residents of Manenberg, is carrying out patrols in the areas crime hotspots.

The gangsters are taking over our parks so every second Saturday we go to the parks where the guys are gambling and selling drugs...

Soldiers are yet to be deployed on the streets of the Cape Flats, following the announcement that the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) would be sent to support the South African Police Service in particularly violent areas.
