National Assembly Speaker Thandi Modise is cracking the whip on what she terms "hands-off, ears-off" ministers when it comes to answering to Parliament for their departments' finances.
Speaking during her budget vote, Modise says some ministers over the years had tended to leave it to officials to attend parliamentary committee meetings.
Eyewitness News reporter Gaye Davis says Modise indicated that she will give the attendance register to President Cyril Ramaphosa.
