Professor of Peace and Conflict Studies at Limerick University Tom Lodge says while he is sure there have been efforts for political reasons to get rid of former president Jacob Zuma, the claims of corruption against him are still worth exploring.
Appearing before the Zondo commission earlier this week, Zuma said attempts to assassinate his character began in the 90s and that there were plots to make him disappear.
Lodge says Zuma's real problems have to do with his presidency, not what happened 20 years ago.
These are things that are very recent and have nothing to do historic conspiracies that may have been directed at him or may have been the consequence of in-fighting within the ANC.— Tom Lodge, Professor of Peace and Conflict Studies - Limerick University
