'Busisiwe Mkhwebane has nothing against the president'

President Cyril Ramaphosa has filed a supporting affidavit in the North Gauteng High Court relating to Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan's court application to suspend Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane's remedial orders.

In turn, Mkhwebane is opposing the president's application.

Clement Manyathela speaks to Busisiwe Mkhwebane spokesperson Oupa Sekgalwe on the way forward.

Our stance has not changed, our understanding is that a mere institution of review proceedings does not suspend the implementation of remedial actions.

Oupa Sekgalwe, Spokesperson - Public Protector

Tension only exists in the media. The public protector has nothing against the president. What we think is happening is a misunderstanding of the law especially on the team that is advising the president.

Oupa Sekgalwe, Spokesperson - Public Protector

Political analyst Xolani Dube says the offices of the president and the public protector must simplify their communication to cater to the general public.

Politics is about perceptions. The highest kind of jargons between these two institutions might leave the ordinary people confused.
