SANDF explains why it took a week to deploy troops to Cape Flats

The South African Defence Force says its commanders have been engaging with police and orientating its members to prepare for their deployment in Cape Town's gang-ridden areas.

There have been concerns over a delay in sending troops into the Cape Flats.

Secretary of Defence Dr Sam Gulube says they have not delayed the process and that the purpose of the defence force is simply to support the South African

For the last two to three days the commanders of the South African police and the defence force have been engaging, interacting, orientating the SANDF to see whether the equipment that is available at hand will be able to do the work....

I got a report from the commanders that they are in the process of finalising and completing the plan and rules of engagement.
