#ZondoCommission: Zuma's opening statement was a diversion - Jeremy Cronin

Jeremy Cronin says former president Jacob Zuma's opening statement this week was a "massive" attempt at diverting from the Zondo Commission's purpose - which is to look at what he says is the industrial-scale looting that went on over several years.

He says the key imperative is to unravel the state capture agenda and to defeat the supposed fightback from those implicated.

Cronin was speaking to Joanne Joseph on the Afternoon Drive about his latest column addressing Zuma's spy claims.

I think it was a massive attempt at diversion from the substance of what we should be looking at.

Jeremy Cronin, Member of the SACP's central committee

I think while it is important to have the discussion about spies and spy allegations and so forth, we must not allow ourselves to get so caught up in that narrative that we forget the key imperative in the present.
