Gauteng governmnet working to resolve Lenasia South land occupations

Gauteng MEC for Infrastructure Development in Tasneem Motara says a team has been put together to address some of the challenges raised by protesting Lenasia South residents.

On Friday, angry community members protested over what they called the illegal mushrooming of informal structures in the area, leading to a confrontation with the alleged invaders.

Motara says the situation is complex as both communities [residents and invaders] have legitimate issues.

We have worked together with the community safety boards in the province and in the municipality to be able to put a stop to further new structures being put in place.

We will then together with the municipality have to go through a process of putting services, we will do the verification to assess who must be located and relocated into either service stands or RDP houses...

Tasneem Motara, MEC for Infrastructure Development - Gauteng

Immediately we have put a team together that will meet at earliest, tomorrow [Tuesday] to be able to address some of the challenges.
