Neighbourhood Watch groups in Delft say they're reluctant to continue local street patrols without police escorts.

The area is one of ten precincts in which SANDF troops are being deployed in a bid to tackle gang-related violence and crime.

On Sunday a Delft police officer was fatally shot and two of his colleagues injured in a shoot out.

When he was approached by the officers he only stopped shooting because he ran out of bullets.

A suspect is due to appear in connection with the shooting this week.
