Gauteng Human Settlements MEC Lebogang Maile says he is seeking clarity over an alleged R7m golden handshake set to have been paid to outgoing City of Tshwane municipal manager Dr Moeketsi Mosola.
Maile wrote to Tshwane mayor Steven Mokgalapa on Tuesday following reports of a separation agreement between the City and Mosola which states that the former manager, whose five-year contract ends in 2022, will be paid remaining remuneration in full.
Maile says legal action will be considered if it is true.
If it is true, we are demanding that the municipality should not proceed in that manner because we think that it is a lot of money and secondly as you know, there are a lot of allegations that the municipal manager is facing.— Lebogang Maile, Gauteng Human Settlements MEC
I don't think that it is right that a person who is facing serious allegations will just be given a handshake. The reason we wrote is because we do not want to assume that it is true. We did say in our letter that if the municipality proceeds we will consider going to court.— Lebogang Maile, Gauteng Human Settlements MEC
