Court hears Ramaphosa's challenge to PP's proposed remedial action for Gordhan

The High Court in Pretoria is hearing an application against Busisiwe Mkhwebane Public Protector by President Cyril Ramaphosa who wants to have the remedial action against Pravin Gordhan temporarily suspended.

Mkhwebane had found Gordhan unlawfully and improperly authorised former Sars deputy commissioner Ivan Pillay’s early retirement.

Eyewitness News reporter Kgomotso Modise says representatives for the president have stated their case.

The argument by Advocate Hamilton Maenetje who is the representative for the president is that there is no reason to force the president to rake action against Pravin Gordhan because he hasn't heard yet the extent of his transgression.

He says what has been stated in the Public Protector's report is misleading, isn't true and the law hasn't been applied adequately properly to allow him to accept this report.
