Over the past weekend, News24 revealed a number of emails from President Cyril Ramaphosa's CR17 campaign showed how certain money for his campaign was raised.

To discuss these leaked emails, Bongani Bingwa chats to the publication's editor-in-chief Adriaan Basson.
These emails reveal that the president was consulted by his campaign managers about who to raise funds from, says Basson.
His personal assistant asked Ramaphosa in these emails about certain names and whether she could approach them for fundraising and that ultimately brings into question the claims that he was kept at arm's length in this campaign.

These emails seem to show that Ramaphosa was involved in the fundraising.
There is an email where the president's assistant asks the president to raise funds from a certain businessman in the UK.

Basson says these emails do not mean that Ramaphosa did anything illegal, the emails challenge the defence that he was kept at arm's length of his CR17 campaign.
