Cape Town City and Stellenbosch FC derby moved to Athlone

The Absa Premiership clash between provincial rivals Cape Town City and Stellenbosch FC has been moved to the Athlone Stadium.

Cape Town Stadium chief executive officer Lesley De Reuck says they found that the pitch was not ready when they conducted a traction test on Monday.

Speaking to Pippa Hudson, De Reuck says the maintenance forms part of a three-year cycle in order to ensure a world-class pitch.

The pitch was found not to be compliant with the technical regulations.

Lesley De Reuck, Chief executive - Cape Town Stadium

We couldn't have a match on a pitch that is not safe. We can't play with people's lives.

Lesley De Reuck, Chief executive - Cape Town Stadium

It is very unfortunate but we were caught up by the weather.
