‘We’re in control. It’ll become apparent in the next few weeks’

An annoyed Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan made a surprise call to Bruce Whitfield’s The Money Show on Wednesday.

Thanks for allowing an uninvited guest.

Pravin Gordhan, Minister of Public Enterprises

South Africans by now… should know who the agents of State Capture are… and should be able to differentiate between those and people like ourselves who are risking our lives to try to save SOEs and get rid of corruption…

Pravin Gordhan, Minister of Public Enterprises

Gordahn responded to criticism of an earlier caller, Chris Logan, a portfolio manager at Opportune Investments.

Logan lamented the skyrocketing average cost per employee at Eskom (up 17.6% to R713 597) and the fact that it produces 5% less electricity today than it did in 2007, yet it has 43% (13 991) more employees.

He made several other assertions which Gordhan felt compelled to dispute on-air.

We are in control. We’re working very hard… it will certainly become more apparent in the next few weeks…
