Court rules in Ramaphosa's favour and slaps Mkhwebane with cost order

The urgent application by President Cyril Ramaphosa to interdict Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane's remedial action has been granted.

The judgment was handed down by Judge Lettie Molopa-Sethosa on Thursday.

The judge found that the president and Public Enterprise Minister Pravin Gordhan are correct in saying that there is no consistency in implementing Mkhwebane’s remedial action pending judicial review.

To discuss the judgment, Clement Manyathela chats to EWN reporter Barry Bateman and political analyst Ralph Mathekga.

This is another loss for Mkhwebane and adverse findings against her. The judge saying it is mindboggling why Mkhwebane opposed this particular application.

The judge found that the president had complied with the remedial action as set out in that report relating to Ivan Pillay. Mkhwebane has also been slapped with a cost order.

Mathekga says the judgment was very restrained and didn't want to cast aspersions on Mkhwebane.

If you look at these reports by her, for me, they have that general incompetence and the are procedural flaws in them.
