Behind the Politics: Barbara Creecy on family life and her political career

In the final instalment of the podcast series Behind the Politics: She Fights Her Battles Silently, EWN reporter Mia Lindeque sits down with Environmental Affairs Minister Barbara Creecy.

Creecy shares details about her family life and political career.

Giving insight into the interview, Lindeque had this to say:

In her instance she was brought up by a single mother so she remembers as a young child how some of her friends would always have a holiday but she and her brother had to go to work with mom.

Mia Lindeque, Reporter - EWN

She says same happened to her children, she ended up being divorced, struggled being a mom to these two children and having the career she chose in politics. So many other women can resonate with this.

The fact that you have a career doesn't mean that you don't have to do all the things that women who don't work have to do. I think that the double shift is an enormous burden on women. I think once upon a time it was considered sort of clever and sexy to be balancing the two, I think now what's recognised is that it is hard work and exhausting.
