President Cyril Ramaphosa and Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane will on Monday meet in court over Mkhwebane’s report on donations to Ramaphosa's CR17 campaign.
The court case comes after Mkhwebane released her report that found that Ramphosa misled Parliament when he claimed R500,000 deposit into a linked account was for his son.
To discuss the court case, Bongani Bingwa chats to Tiso Blackstar specialist reporter Karyn Maughan.
The emphasis of disclosure of Ramaphosa's specific political funding has been fascinating to me, we have never seen a Public Protector report asking this of anyone in the past, and the least that have come over the last weekend is to find out who is funding Ramaphosa and to cast aspersions over his leadership.— Karyn Maughan, Specialist reporter - Tiso Blackstar
She says Ramaphosa being asked to reveal who his party funders are, could lead to insinuations around his campaign.
We have seen the kind of insinuations made with regards to Maria Ramos and this muddies the political water for someone who is trying to lead a unified African National Congress.— Karyn Maughan, Specialist reporter - Tiso Blackstar
