[WATCH] Zozibini Tunzi: People are so used to a westernised type of beauty

Zozibini Tunzi has the stigma of what a Miss South Africa should look like.

In her slick short hair cut, Tunzi was crowned Miss South Africa on Friday night at Sun Arena, in Pretoria.

The 25-year-old from Tsolo in Eastern Cape tells Azania Mosaka that she was much more confident this time when she entered the competition.

Tunzi was a Miss SA semifinalist two years ago and had planned to re-enter the pageant in 2020 until she discovered that at 25 it was the final year she qualified to enter.

I was much confident and I was much more myself this time. I was much happier and had much purpose.

I am an African.

Tunzi says going into the competition she was most scared about social media.

I'm so scared of social media because you are so open up all of a sudden to all this judgement and cyberbullying but it is so interesting because it is also the same place where you can get the most support as well.

She says she is happy the barriers of what Miss South Africa should look like have been broken.

People are so used to a westernised type of beauty and so when something new comes they will have these different opinions.

Zozibini Tunzi, Miss South Africa

I am so glad that I won and they are saying these things because it gives me an extra push to show them that there is a different kind of beauty than what you are used to especially in Africa.

Zozibini Tunzi, Miss South Africa

I am so glad I am going to Miss Universe because that is the kind of space I need to insert myself into and show people that this is South Africa and this is how we are, we are multifaceted.
