The university said it had put the necessary counselling and support services in place and was arranging alternative accommodation.

Thank you to all staff members, students and the greater Stellenbosch community who have been offering support and assistance. We are currently assessing the needs and will communicate further.

Due to smoke and water damage, students could not return to Huis Ten Bosch, but alternative accommodation was provided in other residences.

Some students have lost all their belongings and donations are welcome.

'If you are able to donate anything please drop it off at Monica Female Residence (33 Colgny Road/next to Wilgenhof) or At Silene PSO (12 Joubert Street). Anything would help!' tweeted a student
