SA woman makes Hong Kong protest all about her, and social media reacts
With the ongoing protests in Hong Kong where citizens have been protesting for weeks against a now-shelved extradition bill, which would see criminal suspects deported to mainland China, a South African woman made the whole protest about her.
A video of her saying she moved from South Africa to avoid protests, has sparked a reaction on social media with some calling her privileged and ignorant.
She said she lives in the area, and explained: “I came from South Africa to move away from this... I don’t want this. This is not the Hong Kong I’ve grown to love.” pic.twitter.com/q8rO0Jxnbo

The selfish tears of this woman are exemplary of the worst instincts of South African whiteness. She cares more about herself than she does about democracy or protest. https://t.co/mhRsXPe81b
