'It is easier to coach somebody on their way up than it is at the top'

Determining what success is for yourself is important and not be driven by what others think, says Transcend Talent Management managing director Zanele Luvuno.

Sizwe Mpofu-Walsh speaks to Luvuno about the power of education and mentorship.

It is important for people to step back and define what success means for them. Success can take different shapes and different forms.

Zanele Luvuno , MD - Transcend Talent Management

Your success can come from a combination of things, not necessarily being in one place and doing one job.

It is easier to coach somebody on their way up than it is at the top. The higher up you get the more independent you are as a person.

Zanele Luvuno , MD - Transcend Talent Management

Coaching isn't necessarily saying there is something broken in you, but it is not your core competency.

Luvuno says the top structures of an organisation reflect on the policy and culture of that organisation.

You find that a lot of corporate structures, especially at the top, are male-dominated, probably white male-dominated at that.

Zanele Luvuno , MD - Transcend Talent Management

You find that the policies of an organisation mirror the policymakers. If you have an organisation that has an all-male board, you will find the likelihood of their maternity leave policy is potentially very thin.
