Public Protector files record of evidence she used for Ramaphosa investigation

The Public Protector has filed records of the evidence she used in her investigation into whether President Cyril Ramaphosa misled Parliament about donations for his presidential campaign.

Mkhwebane found that Ramaphosa misled Parliament when he claimed a R500 000 donation from Bosasa was facilitated through his son's company.

The spokesperson for the Public Protector Oupa Segwale told The Xolani Gwala Show that the record includes 'all sorts of evidence' that the Public Protector based her findings on.

Things like bank statements for the different accounts that are cited in the investigation report...it's things like correspondence.

Basically, every little piece of evidence that the Public Protector relied upon.

On Monday Ramaphosa was granted an interdict preventing Mkhwebane from enforcing any of the remedial action mentioned in her report.

Earlier this month his attorneys claimed that some of the evidence Mkhwebane used to reach her decision had been "unlawfully obtained".

Segwale says there is no truth to the accusation.

The Public Protector takes serious exception to those insinuations. They are being used to besmirch the Public Protector.
