'Jenna's story is about how to carry on living in the face of death'

Jenna Lowe's mother, Gabi Lowe, has captured her daughter's life story in a memoir Get Me to 21: The Jenna Lowe Story.

The LeadSA activist died in 2015 after battling a rare degenerative lung disease.

Lowe joined Azania Mosaka in studio to share the inspiration behind the book and her own journey to healing.

Jenna wanted to write a book and when she was in ICU, she told me she would write it when she came out, so partly I wanted to do it for her.

It is not just a story about rare disease and organ donation, it is a story about life, it is a story about how to face adversity and challenge. It is a story about how to stand up and fight for what you need and how to carry on living in the face of death.

We are so scared of the conversation around death, pain and suffering. So this book felt important but what I didn't know is that it would be such an important part of my healing.
