[VIDEOS] Foreign-owned shops looted in Soweto on Wednesday

Late into Wednesday night reports and videos were being posted of shop lootings in Soweto with residents naming Zola, Emdeni, Moletsane, White City, Zondi and Rockville as the affected areas.

The reasons for the lootings is as yet unknown but some residents tweeted that it was a retaliation for the recent Johannesburg CBD protests by foreign nationals.

Many Soweto residents expressed outrage on Twitter about what was happening on Wednesday night.

Thulani on Twitter wrote:

This is good to see, residents in my block held the looters back until the police came. This shop wasn't looted but they are still looting other shops nearby and fighting residents who are having none of this
