[LISTEN] Marikana miners remembered

Thousands of people gathered at the koppie in Marikana on Friday, to commemorate the 7th anniversary of the massacre.

Police shot dead 34 miners during a wage strike in 2012.

EWN’s Thando Kubheka is in Marikana for the event.

They have been spending the day reflecting on what happened here and what life has been seven years on. We had different parties who were pre-digesting their support to Amcu [the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union], who are hosting the event.

Most importantly the families are also here. They also spoke on stage, thanking Amcu for their support.
