Probe launched into why Monument High School failed to report bullying incident

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has met with the school management at Monument High School in Krugersdorp after a video of a bullying incident was circulated on social media.

In the video, one pupil is seen dragging and pushing another shouting: "Jy wil mos rook".

Lesufi says he has met with the victim's family and that a disciplinary process will get underway.

Unfortunately the parent of the alleged perpetrator was not around the province, we could not meet with them.

We have agreed to establish a disciplinary committee immediately so that they can hear the matter.

Learners that were witnessing the event laughing, doing nothing, and learners that were involved in the altercation, we are giving them almost 48 hours for them to respond on why we should not suspend them immediately.

Lesufi says the school breached serious protocol by not reporting the assault.

We have established a team to investigate who didn't report and on the basis of that report, we will take decisive steps.
