[LISTEN] Lola app helps young girls access much needed assistance
Social purpose enterprise Re-Action has launched a mobile application aimed at helping young women and girls, aged between 13-24 access information with necessary health services and providers, as well as to guide social behaviour.
Re-Action founder Sharon White explains the inspiration behind the app and how else it is of assistance.
We use an avatar, Lola, Lola is herself a 16 year old girl, she lives in a township, she lives with her grandmother...she chats with Lola about sexual health, teenage pregnancy, HIV, being bullied, gender based violence...Sharon White, Founder - Re-Action
The interesting thing is we have also launched a Facebook page - Lola for Girls at the same time and what we did not expect is girls started reaching out on a one to one basis...Sharon White, Founder - Re-Action
We have been working very closely at a human-scale level. Yes, we have got all these policies but we have got to engage a human scale level with these young girls and bring the whole community to the table.Sharon White, Founder - Re-Action
The app is only available in Mpumalanga at the moment.
