The River co-creator and co-executive producer Phathutshedzo Makwarela says the team is still in shock after bagging an Emmy Award nomination.
The show has been nominated under the Best Telenovela category and will go against other telenovelas from Argentina, Colombia and Portugal.
Asked if there is any pressure to challenge themselves even further, Makwarela says what is crucial for them is to resist the urge to change what has made the show successful.
The pressure might be there but that should never influence how we tell stories because we never created a show for the Emmy's, we created a show for a South African audience.— Phathutshedzo Makwarela, Co-creator and co-executive producer of The River
I think if we stay true to telling a good African story, I think the recognition and the accolades world wide will keep coming.— Phathutshedzo Makwarela, Co-creator and co-executive producer of The River
The 47th International Emmy Awards ceremony will be held on 25 November at the Hilton Hotel in New York.
