Meet Absa L'Atelier Ambassador Winifrid Luena

Winifrid Luena is based in Dar-es-salaam and has been involved in various exhibitions both in Tanzania and abroad, with exhibitions such as the Silence and How did we get here, themed exhibitions at Nafasi Art Space and the eroticism and intimacy exhibition at Nakumatt underground in Kampala. His first solo exhibition titled Essays is planned for later this year.

Luena’s work studies of individuality, over individualism. There is a sense in the world at times that being an individual is a collective process. That it is part of larger argument intended to bring some kind of human liberation, that it is an act of authority and power over the self, which is why he divides these two terms.
