Load shedding set to persist as Medupi and Kusile underperform
Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe has briefed Parliament’s mineral resources and energy portfolio committee on the Integrated Resources Plan.
He says the underperformance of the newly built Medupi and Kusile means that Eskom cannot guarantee that there will be no load shedding.
Eyewitness News reporter Kevin Brandt was at that meeting.
The issue with regard to Medupi and Kusile powers stations did raise its head there, saying that in general, continued struggles with Eskom, in particular, saying that the key observation of the IRP 2019 is that continued underperformance of Medupi and Kusile will exacerbate load-shedding risk.Kevin Brandt, Reporter - EWN
The minister and the delegation interacted with the committee with regard to future power purchase programmes to assist in the acquisition of capacity and once again stated that if we do not resolve these issues there will be some trouble when it comes to load shedding.Kevin Brandt, Reporter - EWN
