Gana will go head-to-head with DA parliamentary leader John Steenhuisen for the hotly contested position at the party's federal council meeting scheduled for November 17.

African Melane on 702Breakfast chats to Gana to give reasons why he believes he can lead the DA.

Gana says the events of the last few weeks, have damaged the DA brand.

People are asking themselves whether the DA is still a vehicle to build one South Africa for all. For us who remain in the DA, we believe that it is time for us to roll up our sleeves and rebuild the trust with members and voters.

He adds that he has chosen to heed the call from activists within the party and contest this position.

My focus will be on building trust with our members and voters. My 17 years in the DA have prepared me to work with members across the country so that we rebuild the brand.
