Best known for his Oscar-winning portrayal of Ugandan dictator, Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland and an activist and agent for change through his organisation, The Whitaker Peace and Development Initiative, Forest Whitaker is in South Africa to promote a new series called Godfather of Harlem on Showmax.
Whitaker joins Bongani Bingwa to chat about the series which he plays the character of Bumpy Johnson.
The series was unique because they came to me with an idea to do a show about Bumpy Johnson and they wanted to know if I would be willing to develop the story with them. We went out and got writers who developed the story.— Forest Whitaker, Actor - Godfather of Harlem
He says he was embedded in this story from the beginning hence his involvement which came first as an executive producer and then as an actor.
He says the story is about a Johnson who is trying to strive for the American dream.
