Police commissioner spokesperson Brigadier Vish Naidoo says 15,000 adult sexual offences kits and 6,500 paediatric sexual assault kits have been delivered to police stations in the country.
Earlier this year Minister Bheki Cele said he would ensure all stations would have rape kits by 14 October but there was an apparent delay, according to the Democratic Alliance.
Naidoo has confirmed the distribution of the various sexual assault kits.
We are looking at an average of 13 kits per station on the adult sexual assault kits and an average of six kits per station on the paediatric sexual assault kits.— Vish Naidoo, Spokesperson for Police Commissioner Khehla Sitole
We only entered into a contract in August this year with a supplier which happens to be the manufacturer and now we are going to be continuously receiving these sexual assault kits and other evidence collection kits.— Vish Naidoo, Spokesperson for Police Commissioner Khehla Sitole
