Celebrate your 67 minutes on Mandela Day reading for a child - Nal'ibali

This Mandela day, Nal’ibali would like to encourage everyone (young and old) to read the autobiography of Nelson Mandela, Long Walk to Freedom. This is aimed at teaching children about South Africa, its history and everything Nelson Mandela stood for – equality and tolerance.

Mandela day is celebrated on 18 July. It is a day to remind every South African of their ability and the responsibility to change the world for the better. This year, Nal’ibali encourages people to spend their 67 minutes on Mandela Day reading for a child.

CapeTalk/702 Redi Tlhabi spoke to Smangele Mathebula, Campaign Driver for Nal'ibali about their National reading-for-enjoyment Campaign.

Nal’ibali is a reading for enjoyment campaign and we believe that working through storytelling and reading is a great vehicle for literacy development. We work with children all over the country and we work primarily through setting up reading clubs with schools and libraries because we believe that reading and storytelling are key in sparking children’s potential

Smangele Mathebula, Campaign Driver for Nal'ibali

Through stories we can all connect, whether we are from different social standing and different background
